About Us

Our Mission

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to safely access the water and achieve their ambitions on the water. Whether you’re new to yachting or looking to join the industry as a professional, we’re dedicated to running friendly, safe and professional courses that are tailored to your needs.

We also believe that the quality of the experience is directly proportional to the amount of time spent 1 to 1 with the instructor.

Therefore all of our courses have a maximum number of three students on board so as to ensure that a high level of support and tuition is received.

RYA approved training provider

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the UK governing body for Sailing & Powerboating Training and has always set the highest standards in safety and professionalism. As well as operating within the guidelines laid down by the national governing bodies, South West Sail Training is a recognised RYA Coastal Training Centre. Risk assessments and safety procedures for all activities offered at our centre are continually reviewed.

How RYA Centres benefit you

The Royal Yachting Association is the UK governing body for sailing & powerboating and is highly regarded around the world. Over the years the RYA has developed a detailed and varied training scheme for water sports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. This ensures that teaching is to national standards and, whilst locations may vary greatly, the standard of training is consistent.
RYA Training Centres are inspected annually in order to maintain these standards and to ensure constant feedback with particular regard to your safety. The RYA also provides the framework for training courses from absolute beginner to instructors, trainers and national coaches. This means that when you attend a course at our centre which is an RYA Training Centre, you are assured of the highest standards of tuition, equipment and facilities.

Our Location

Based in Falmouth, we have a range of great harbours to explore, and plenty of wildlife to admire.

Much quieter and more scenic than the Solent, Falmouth and the surrounding areas offer destinations for all weathers, with both blue water sailing and and stunning beaches. There is an array of quiet anchorages, and the mixture of deepwater and shallows make for excellent navigational tuition.

There is also the opportunity for proper offshore conditions on our doorstep and, depending on conditions, courses may explore the Scilly Isles, Helford, Fowey, Plymouth and beyond.

Our Yachts

We pride ourselves on our tidy, well maintained and relatively new yachts that are perfectly suited to sailing tuition.

Our ratios of three students to each instructor means that you always have the privacy of your own cabin.

Extraordinary Experiences

We’re not just about education – we’re about experience. We want all our students to love yachting as much as we do, so we go out of our way to ensure we plan fun, stimulating courses which challenge you in a positive way.

We also know that joining a new boat and a crew that you’ve never met before can be nerve wracking. That’s why we go out of our way ensure our students feel at ease, so they can really get the most out of the experience.

Our Core Values

We pride ourselves on our expertise and values…
